Just What I Needed
I was driving along Dixie Hwy yesterday and saw a billboard for this company.  I was just thinking "who can I sue?"  so it's a good thing this company's around.

Shopping Alert: Shopping Off and Off the Avenue
BuzzBuzz1-601.jpgThere is one Florida girl up in Jacksonville who is making some fab jewelry.  Kelly from Happy Shack Designs just sent me this necklace.  Oh boy, I can't wait to wear it.

SD010.gifFrom way down under, check out this great print.  A company called Sprout Design is making pillows, women's and kid's clothes and loads of other items.  I love this print for a modern beach look.  One of my other favorites is a print of some chubby hippos.

IMG_8299.JPGIn other Off the Avenue news, Cloud Ten (or the store formerly known as Cloud 10) is back in town.  Still off Worth Ave, this time at 402 Hibiscus (right behind Chanel).  I was walking by on my way to the Worth Ave the other day (that sounds like I was actually going to buy something at Tiffany's or Bonpoint...ah no..can't remember the last time Tiffany's had a 75% off sale) and couldn't believe that there was children's shop in town that I didn't know about.  I was told that they're back from Downtown at the Gardens and they'll be opening for real on Monday (Nov 3).  I already spotted a number of great things.  One of my favorites is the teepee in the window - so retro!

sisboom.jpgOkay, one more mention.  Correct me if I'm wrong (okay, don't really).  Could this be any more Palm Beach?  I don't think so.  The fabric is by SisBoom.  I've been racking my brain (sounds scary) trying to decide which room in my house needs this fabric....oh great idea, I'll make a bike seat cover for my new wheels...

Is there Any Shaving Cream Left in Palm Beach County?
IMG_8319.JPGThis is what was going on on Seabreeze Ave. last night.  My kids wanted to know if I would ever let them to do this.  I told them "Sure, if you get completely cleaned off in the yard and then clean up the mess you made while cleaning up in the yard."  My son then said "with a toothbrush?"  Yep, I've trained him well.

I've Been Driving a Minivan and Didn't Even Know It
If you have seen a woman, I mean youngish looking female, around town lately pushing a bike with a kid strapped to the back, you'd realize that someone might need a new bike.  Yes, it's the season for biking again and I am in need!  I got a hand-me-down, and before that, it was used, bike from (gasp) my husband's grandmother a number of years ago.

Okay, this is how it happened.  When I was a young lass, I used to ride my touring bike, like, all the time.  This was before anyone was wearing yellow bracelets all over the place.  I was part of a club and everything.  We used to do "drafting" and ride in a "veledrome"  (okay, I only did that once but, it happened).  Then I went through a series of misfortunes with my bikes.  One accident (not my fault and no helmet with explains A LOT) and a couple of robberies landed me in the position that I had no bike but a desire burning somewhere within.  My husband's grandmother bought a used bike from one of the Palm Beach shops.  It was used as a rental and as my dad says, "rode hard and put to bed wet".  She decided she didn't want it so I gladly took it off her hands.

So, fast forward to years later.  Great years of riding with the kiddos, walking up the bridge because my bike has just one gear, years going to the Big Tree, losing my bike lock at Four Arts and having my husband pick me up, years of getting caught in the rain and having my husband pick me up, years of pushing my bike in the sand because I was too lazy to lock up my bike, good Florida years.  But, it's time to get a new bike.  So, last week I went to my favorite bike shop to look at the Jamis bikes.

I had already looked at some bikes online so I knew that Trek is a little more expensive (I guess having Lance Armstrong endorse your product makes said product cost a little more - oooh you Armstrong...if you were still riding professionally, you'd be in trouble!), so I knew I'd probably be picking a Jamis

08_AURORA.jpgOnce there, I saw a bunch of bikes I liked and rode one or two but the lady that was helping me couldn't understand why I wanted a men's bike.  She didn't believe me that I could easily ride one with a child seat on the back so she had me show her how I'd manage to make my leg go over the bar.  Hey, I did it and insisited that that's what I do all the time.  I told her that I couldn't possibly ride a girl's bike.  Above is the bike I'd like to be riding.   Yeah, I'd be cool.  But, this is what a girl's bike looks like...calypsowmn_whiteblue.jpg
It's fine, nothing wrong with it, but, you know, cool? (This is actually Trek.  I have no firm convictions sometimes)

I then went home and reflected upon my upcoming bike (i.e. called my mom and told her what I wanted for Christmas and my husband's birthday - Happy Birthday honey).  Then, yesterday, as I was riding/pushing my bike along Flagler because the chain kept coming off and I couldn't take it anymore, I realized a HORRIBLE thing.  I, for the past however many years, have been riding a GIRL'S bike!  What the????  It's like I've been driving a minivan and didn't even know it (sorry ladies, but I am not afraid to take a stand on the total uncoolness of minivans).  I feel a little, I don't know, lost right now.  I think, considering the facts at hand, I have to now purchase a totally, uncool, girl's bike.  How can I insist upon anything else at this point?  All I can imagine is buying a cool, straight bar-red kind of bike and having to stop quickly and hop off and getting my knee tangled up on the bar and falling over in the middle of traffic with my 3 year old screaming bloody murder on the back of the bike (this actually reminds me of an incident on Royal Palm Way in which I managed to get my leg stuck in between my son's wheel and seat - very bizarre and tragic story - I did not take pictures of the bruises so don't bother asking).

I think a little of my excitement about getting a new bike has deserted me.  I guess you'll know what I decide to get once you see me riding along Flagler to the Green Market or in Palm Beach somewhere.  You'll either see a happy chick on a boy's bike (please don't ask me to stop and talk though or you'll risk me having to get off the bike) or a sullen, grumpy chick on a sissy girl's bike (feel free to swerve in front of me, I'll be able to stop and hop off quickly).  Either way, I'll be riding.  The weather's great, the days are fine, I'm a girl on a bike and it's mine, mine, mine.

PB Chick Opens the Lines of Communication
Hey You!  I just got back from a whirlwind tour of Europe.  Boy, when I was sitting outside of a little cafe in Brussels, I remember thinking, "what are those little Floridians up to?"  But, I was soon distracted by my husband pulling up in a new Mercedes that we went over to Germany to buy and forgot all about you guys.

Okay, none of that's true, but didn't you believe it even for a second?  Don't ask what I've really been doing, okay, nothing.  Avoiding any talk of politics on t.v., delegating my minions - I mean children - to do as much of my work for me as possible, and scraping Banyan tree berries off of my car.  But Something Has Happened.  Actually, a couple of somethings.

Society of the Four Arts.JPGStorytime is back!  Yippee.  It returned with a bang by having as the theme, Fire Prevention.  The fire marshall for Palm Beach came and helped Miss Sam out with storytime.  It was pretty crazy but that was part of the fun.  In addition to getting fire hats, the kids got treat bags and the chance to climb all over fire trucks.  My daughter was a contientious objector.  I don't know why.  Maybe when she's older she'll explain it to me.  My guess was that she was bothered by the fact that the fire trucks in Palm Beach are painted yellow instead of red (she wore a red outfit too - I'm not above color coordinating).  In an aside, let me say how much fun it is to take pictures in front of red fire trucks...think Christmas pics okay....

Barzina Palm Beach.JPGIf that wasn't enough for our day today (Happy Yom Kippor), we visited Barzina for the first time since the owner was back from her 'round the world trip.  She already has in the INCREDIBLE pearls from China.  They're 75" long and they're only $200 (please contact me for my mailing address).  I actually thought I was going to cry a little when I saw them.

Barzina Palm Beach 2.JPGHere's another picture.   The bags in the picture are new too.  Yummy!  Another great thing in the store right now are these fun paper masks from England.  They're only $5 (hey, my price range!).  There was one of an Englishman with round spectacles that I thought was so funny.

A great upcoming event is happening at Maine Cottage.  You know how I feel about that place.  On October 22nd at 4pm they're holding their Grand Opening Party.  I don't think there's an end time so...woo hooo!  Party!  Oh, on a sad note, watch out if you want to park your car in one of the city parking garages.  The city commissioners in an effort to encourage visitors to the downtown area have taken away the free parking for the first hour you park in the garage.  Maybe our little baby dollars are going to pay for the Temple of Pride and Greed.  I didn't ask.  Since I'm such a Supporter of Commerce, I'll be riding my bike downtown from now on.

Hellloooooo!
Yeah, it's been quiet around here.  No hurricanes (yet), no seasonal people (yet).  Boring.  But hey, let's look on the bright side, school's started and other than that one "hurricane" day, they're in pretty regularly until Thanksgiving.

clayeux dress.JPGSo, in between sitting around and painting my toes, I've gone a few places.  I've stopped keeping track of stores that have closed down.  It's too depressing.  But, in shopping news, you have to go to Clayeux.  First off, fab sale, you don't want to miss it.  Plus there are a number of new pieces that I really don't want to live without (like this white dress with the beading on it).

Also on the shopping front, you might want to drop by Flower Child.  I left, on the rack, three Tartine et Chocolate dresses (I still haven't decided if I can live without them so if you want them, I'll race you there).  Also, there were at least two pairs of kids shoes by Hogan.  Now, you may be wondering why I didn't snatch all of these things up.  Good question.  Let's just say, you don't want to see my daughter's closet.  It's to the point that I'm starting to be embarrased about it.

In other news, I'm pretty sure that the ownership of Champs Elysses has changed.  Why aren't I sure?  Because I don't speak french and Monsieur is no where to be seen.  Neither are my daughter's favorite sugar cookies.  But, the bread is fab and the new people seem to be doing a great job.  If I had to guess I'd say that Monsieur is off riding his bicycle on the roads of Nice while his wife is toiling away making sugar cookies for their new bakery.

Storytime has started up again at the West Palm Beach Public Library.  You'll have to wait until October to go to the Four Arts.

dwr chair.jpgOooh, I just went into Design Within Reach the other day and saw these chairs.  How retro!  This also came in a rocking chair!

I must admit, I passed up one fantastic opportunity the other day.  A girl I know who lives in Palm Beach had put four used, but not dead yet, wicker chairs in her garbage pile.  Now, if I were made of sterner stuff, I would have backed up to her garbage, opened up the back of my suv (that's what it's for), kept the car running and jumped out and thrown those babies into my car, and then sped away.  Instead, coward that I am, I'm regretting my restraint.  All I could think about at the time is the look on this girl's face if she drove up while I was in the midst of shopping her garbage.  Plus, I would have looked like a deer in someone's headlights.

Those chairs would have looked great spray painted in different colors.  My mother will be so ashamed of me.

Is it a little Bug-ey?
South Florida Science Museum 2.JPGIn an attempt to escape the heat and humidity, not that I'm complaining...after all it isn't September yet (my offical Least Favorite Month in Florida), a friend and I took the kiddies to the South Florida Science Museum today.

If you haven't been to the museum before, it's a relatively small museum that has temporary South Florida Science Museum 4.JPGexhibits in addition to a permanent collection that includes a mummy, science related areas (I try not to dwell on the fact that I don't "get" most of them.  I think I've gotten stupider), some great aquariums with fish (Moray Eels are gross but as my friend pointed out, they taste great in her sushi) and a great outdoor space with big bubbles (our favorite) and even a model train section.

Next month (September 20th) there is supposed to be a fab new exhibit called "Grossology".  I'm trying not to think about the implications of that name.  FYI - the museum is going to be closed from September 8th - 19th.  So if you want to go, run!

Don't Drown, Turn Around
hurricane.JPEGGreat, we just get them off to school and now we have a holiday.  My son asked me what we were going to do tomorrow.  I told him I was going to pretend they (the kids) weren't here.  He then, of course, wondered who was going to make him lunch (typical male).  I said "Whoever usually makes your lunch"  When he realized that he usually makes his own I think he was a little let down.  Whatever, I'm on break.

Phipps Plaza 12.JPGA tucked away place that I'm sure everyone knows about in Palm Beach but few visit is Phipps Plaza.  I drive by it all the time - it's on County just north of Royal Palm Way.  Every once in a while I turn in just to remind myself that it's still here.

I love the houses along the perimeter of the plaza.  Some of them are almost hanging over the road.

Life Lessons
The summer heat can make a person turn inward into herself, make you really wonder, "Am I the best that I can be?"  So, in the spirit of learning, I submit my list of...

Things I have Learned this Week (so far):

Monday:
It isn't cute anymore when my 2 year old ruins storytime by running around in front of the story lady.  Since storytime at the Four Arts is suspended until October (not my fault), I should work on outdoor vs. indoor behavior (for 2 yr old, smart alec).
Tuesday:  DSL is faster than dial-up.
havianas.pngWednesday:  There is something good about Loehman's (I boycotted this store years ago because of their scary open floor-plan dressing room).  That good thing goes by the name of Havianas!
Thursday:  It isn't such a deal to get $4 Havianas if you go up to PGA two times in two days.
Also learned on Thursday:  Telling the receptionist at the hair salon that I have "special needs hair" doesn't get me in any sooner.  Next time, I will try to cry a little.
Friday:   Trying to act cool when leaving the beach by not wearing said Havianas flip flops (I was trying to keep them nice) only hurts myself.  This lesson is proven by the new set of blisters I am now sporting on the bottom of my feet.
Also learned on Friday:  The parking police in downtown WPB do not consider an SUV a "commercial vehicle"  even after I told the man that I was partaking in "commerce" on Clematis.

I'm hoping for fewer lessons next week.

Aren't You Even A Little Tempted?

a swimming pool.jpgIf you own a pool and you’re going on vacation, you may not want to read this. But, leave me your address before you go.

Have you ever thought of all of those luscious pools in Palm Beach sitting empty during the summer? There must be hundreds upon thousands of them. Sparkling and glimmering in the sunlight. Swept and chemically treated every week by peppy little pool fairies. Just one little splash and you will be suddenly transformed from being sweaty and over-cooked to relaxed, laid back and maybe you’ll find an extra $100 in your checking account. Who knows. With one of those pools anything is possible.

It just so happens that the thought of all of those empty pools is driving me crazy (I know, wait for it....short drive...who said that?). It isn’t that I can’t go to a friend’s pool, or a relative’s, or the Lake Worth pool, or Lake Lytal, or Calypso Bay. That’s not the same as a pool not serving it’s purpose. They’re just empty for goodness sake! It’s, it’s, it isn’t green! I’m trying to be efficient here. I’d be doing a service to the environment. Really, just think of all of those pools, the water going into them, the pumps used to keep them filled to just the right amount, the pool people using gas to go up to the North End to keep them clean. I’m only trying to do my bit during these tough times. Think of me as a Pool-ecologist.

Just call, I’ll keep your pool company while you’re out of town. I do prefer lounge chairs but it isn’t a requirement. Also, umbrellas or shade around the pool are a must so sun only pools need not apply.

Shopping Alert: Maine Place to Be
MC0850.jpgMy hands are shakin' (no, not shaking, shakin'), I'm having trouble catching my breath, and I think I'm starting to see spots.  Do you think I should call the doctor?  I just got the Maine Cottagecatalog.  Did you know they're on Clematis now?  YES!  I KNOW!  I am planning on going in and saying, "I don't know what you were thinking, but, thank you."

I once helped a girl with her house and I kept pushing Maine Cottage's furniture on her like I was getting a commission (which I wasn't).  If I can't afford to buy something myself, I want someone I know to own it.  I think I'm a kind person that way.  I'm not greedy and keep things for myself.  Squirrling away my finds like a... like a squirrel.  I just give and give.  It's just who I am.  So, even though I can't go out and fill my home with everything MC makes, I'm sharing.  I should win a humanitarian award for this work.

Don't Forget the Body
Body 2.JPGI've seen some strange things in Palm Beach but this was definitely up there with the strangest.
While we were at the beach today, the lifeguards were practicing their life saving skills on this fellow.  I think he should be called "Bobby".  There was a bunch of lifeguards walking with the four wheeler while someone was doing CPR on Bobby.  The bizarre thing was that once they got to the lifeguard stand, all of the lifeguards walked away and Bobby just lay like a dead body on the four wheeler (I guess the CPR didn't work).  Then a little while later someone came and got Bobby and threw him over the seawall where he proceeded to rest for the remainder of the morning.  He did get some company for a little bit when a lifeguard walked up and squished all of the water out of him.  Poor Bobby.  He had a rough morning.

Hair are You?

I hesitate to suggest a salon, but after two visits, I thought I’d share. Somehow, finding the right hair stylist seems more complicated that what doctor to go to or picking out your child’s school. Maybe it’s just me. It took me so long, so many tragic visits to salons here, that for a couple of years I would only get my hair cut on trips to my hometown. That and my dry cleaning.

Finding a salon requires perseverance and a little bit of investigative work. Just stopping in a place I drive by seems incredibly risky to me. I might as well go in and say "Hi, you don’t know me and you don’t know my hair but I’m throwing myself on your mercy. Please leave me with something on top." I just can’t do it. The other day I was at A Latte Fun with some friends and a little girl came in with the most fantastic hair cut. She had thick straight hair and it was cut in a wedge so the cut made her hair look even thicker. We, of course, couldn’t let her mom go into the play part until she told us the name of the salon, where it is, and who cut her hair. That’s the way it works.

DaNee.JPGAfter two great hair cuts at a salon, I wanted to mention a place a friend recommended to me. I took my daughter to DaNee Ritz Salon (more info is under "Errands") on S. Olive, just south of Clematis, two weeks ago. She’s two. And she had to wear her sunglasses the whole time. Dawn cut her hair and did a fabulous job. She also worked around the glasses. What can I say, I’m the star’s caretaker. I love what Dawn did with her hair so I took my other daughter the following week. She wanted to have layers put in her hair so Dawn fixed her up. My daughter loved it and was so excited to go to school and show her friends. I love how girls are just like women just in a miniature size. One of her friends took pictures of the front and back of her hair so she could show her "stylist". I couldn’t stop laughing about that. I don’t even remember getting my hair cut in a salon until I was in middle school.

A friend from Italy told me that hair salons in Italy are everywhere and they’re all good and affordable. So, maybe that isn’t the case here but I now believe that you can get a great cut here. Oh, I can’t remember the name of the salon where that girl got her cut, but I do know it’s off of Indiantown in Jupiter on A1A in the Three Palms Shopping center. If you were wondering.

Put The Flags at Half-Mast Boys - Show Some Respect

IMG_5483.jpgOkay, I’ve been putting off doing this. But it’s become like an elephant in the room. I can’t ignore it any longer and I can’t pretend it didn’t happen. So, here goes. Hollywould isn’t here anymore. Are you okay. Somebody call 911. Did you already know about it and were afraid to mention it to me? I considered wearing black around town for a while but I decided that people would just think I was down from New York so no one would figure out I was in mourning. Hollywould is supposed to open up in Adventura. I don’t know if they have yet. Does it really matter anyway? I mean, who goes there? Zara has a children’s department and I would really, really love to see what they have in but do you see me going there? Ah, no.

If that wasn’t enough. Like I haven’t experienced a huge enough blow to my shopping psyche, I heard from a reliable source that Babor is closing by the middle of June. Can things get any worse around here? What am I going to have to do - have my daughter do my toes for me while I read a People magazine on the porch? Babor was The place that everyone knew that I liked and that they could get a gift cerftificate for me and I would be happy (rare, but happens). Babor was also the place that I had decided was going to be the setting of a James Bond-esque film with beauticians as the secret agents. What’s going to happen to that idea now? Gone. Blown away like a forgotten memory.

I really can’t take any more disappointment. I’m trying to prop up this place with two toothpicks and some Elmer’s glue. Next thing you know, the beach will be closed too and then where will I be? Somebody cue the music, I need a moment.

Update (Aug. 6):  Island Video is now closed too.  So it's either Netflix or Blockbuster on Southern for us locals.

Shopping Alert: Living La Vida Worth
So, I'm moving on from talking about parking.  I haven't let it go but, moving on is a step in the right direction.

Spring Flowers 4.jpgOooh, have you been to Spring Flowers lately?  I can't think of an appropriate thing to compare it to.  It's like going into a store and completely flipping out because everywhere you turn is another beautiful dress.  Oh, I know it's like when George wanted to be wrapped in velvet on Seinfeld.  Good, finally found one.

Spring Flowers has the most divine dresses by Fleurisse, a French clothing line that works with Spring Flowers to custom design the fabrics and styles.  Another great line found in the store is Joan Calabrese.  This, unlike all of the other companies, is not a European line.  Check out the entry under "Shopping" to find out more about the store.  The new Fleurisse dresses in white with subtle blue dots are DIVINE.

I also just went into the other premier children's store on the Ave, Bonpoint.  There is the most beautiful dress in the front window.  It could almost be mistaken for a slip but it isn't.  I found it in a size 8 and there was also a 3 left.  Can we say "Matching"?

il Sandalo 2.JPGAnother great place you have to go into is il Sandalo.  It's actually right behind Bonpoint in a little garden area.  Almost all of the sandals are on sale for $95 all summer long, but of course, the selection will diminsh as the summer goes on.  My friend loved this pair but they didn't have it in her size.

Make Sure To Bring Your First-Born

A New Parking System.JPGI should have known when the parking price went up a couple of months ago from $.25 for every 15 minutes to $.50 for the same time that something was up. And sure enough, these little beauties are now all over town. I’ve decided to look upon them as modern sculptures and ignore their more mercenary purpose.

When I’ve gone down to Coconut Grove (mainly only to go to Senor Frog’s), the parking system there - just like new one here - seemed kinda fun. We would all be excited that we didn’t have to have coins with us, it takes credit cards too. But, thing is, if I remember correctly, down south it’s still $.25 for 15 minutes. Now, if I am so unfortunate as to get stuck in a place in Palm Beach where I have to use a meter, I have to plan on using some lunch money for parking. I know in this Pollyanna-Pink PB Chick website I have a Policy of only saying Positive things, but, the thing is, I think the new parking system, along with the higher parking prices sends the wrong message. It almost feels like the town of Palm Beach is discouraging visitors. Is that the point? Because maybe we’re at cross-purposes here - I was actually trying to get people to go to Palm Beach.

For the most part you can count of the fact that I won’t be parking at a spot where I have to use a credit card to leave my car for 15 minutes. Maybe in the future Palm Beach will require a deposit of things like jewelry, bonds, or first born sons. Who knows what they’ll come up with next.

Update:  Of course after promising that I'll never, ever, ever pay those prices for parking, I did.  We went to the beach at Midtown Saturday.  We parked in one hour parking then but on Sunday we went to Phipps Park.  The only place to park is in paid parking.  While my family ended up finding some shade to wait in while I did the parking, my conversation with some perfect strangers went something like this...

People who were in front of me:  HOW much is it for 15 minutes?
Me (with a resigned voice): It's $2.00 per hour so it comes out to $.50 for every 15 minutes.
People in front then had to send someone back to their car for more money. waiting, waiting, waiting...
My turn.  Me:
Where's my piece of paper?
My son:  I don't think it gives you a paper.
Me:  Wha???  Oh,  it says here we have until 12:22.  What time is it?
Guy Behind Me:  It's 11:22.
Me:  What?  I can not believe it.  Aaaauugghhh. [the kids were with me]  I have to do this again.  I'm so sorry (to the like 4 people behind me).
when I'm finally done...
Me:
(to everyone in line) sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry.

It’s All About the Beach

DSCN0031.JPGSo I went to the beach on Friday, Saturday and Monday. I don’t know what happened on Sunday. Frankly, I’m a little embarrassed about it. I should have been there. Now I have regrets. Aaah, there’s nothing like the sound of my daughter complaining about her sea lice. Another thing I’m regretting. And I’m the one who had the dire warnings about buying the Safe Sea. Can’t take my own advice. What a loser.

I can’t get enough of going to the beach. Everyday is different. On Saturday we were sitting on our towels and my husband told me to turn around. Behind us there was a row of four people sitting in chairs all doing crosswords or Soduku. And, can you believe it, I forgot my camera. I was so mad. There would be a picture of them here right now. It was classic.

Also on Saturday there was a girl who came to the beach after us who put her towel down right next to us. She had wonderful red hair and, frankly, the whitest skin I think I’ve ever seen on the beach. I kept wondering if she had put sunscreen on before she got there because I didn’t see her put on any. Then she just laid out in the sun, no umbrella or anything. After only fifteen or twenty minutes she left. When she was gone I turned to my husband and said "Thank goodness she left, she was stressing me out."

Friday and Monday we did the Emergency Beach Run. This involves racing to the beach straight from school and having the kids change in the car. I find it very therapeutic for everyone. Who cares about homework. My question is "How much?" If I get a shrug out of my son, we’re good to go.

On Monday when we went to the beach there was a family there from England. Hey, they could have been from Australia or New Zealand but I’m pretending that I’m a language expert and I’m going to go with southern England, possibly Sussex. Anyway, I love it when I get next to foreigners on the beach. I really feel like I’m on vaca’. I always feel bad for them though because they’re always so burnt. Although, I must admit, maybe I feel a little superior because even though we all have our sunscreen on, we have that tan that "we just can’t help" having because since we live here it’s inevitable. Hey, you take what you can get.

Another good thing about being next to people from England is I got to hear their "fancy" accent and I could still mostly understand what they were saying. It’s not like they were from Germany or something. That could have been bad because then they could have been talking bad about me and I’d have had no idea. I could have been telling them that their kid was cute or something and they’d been telling each other "What’s with the American chick? We just want to be alone on the beach?" And I’d have been grinnin’ like a fool. Phew, thank goodness they were English.

DSCN1468.JPGOh, another thing I love about the beach is when other people get in trouble. Yeah, you think about these things too.  See, thing is, I’ve gotten fussed at a couple of times before. Nothing big. "Watch your kid...blah..blah..." Hey, it’s why I go to the beach with the lifeguards. They’re like the police. You’re glad they’re there but not when you get a ticket. So, when someone starts climbing on the rocks I tell my kids "Wait for it..wait for it..." and then there’s the whistle. It’s most entertaining. They also don’t like it when someone swims too near the rocks, or when a swimmer goes out too far. I don’t think footballs and things like that are allowed (we brought one once and we got a talkin’ to so I’m not questioning authority). But, when my daughter got stung by jellyfish she went up to the lifeguard stand and he sprayed her foot with vinegar (works like a charm) and I know if something were to happen I’d rather be at a beach with lifeguards than without. Come on, admit it, you know it’s fun when someone else gets the whistle.

Maybe I’ll go to the beach tomorrow. You never know what’ll happen.

The Labyrinth

Flagler Closed.jpgSunfest is a coming. Lock and Load. Buckle your seat belt. All hands on deck. It’s time to review our game plan for getting around downtown. Now, you may think "Oh, I can’t drive around downtown until Sunfest is over." Hey, Flagler may be closed down but that means nothing in PB Chick’s world. See, this is the way it works...

Say you want to drop off some books at the library but you’re coming from south of Okeechobee. So, what you do is go up Olive until you get to Banyan. Drive east until right before Flagler. You know they’re going to close Flagler right there so turn right in between the office buildings. The book drop off is on the other side of Clematis so turn right but then throw the car in reverse and back up to the book drop.

So what happens if you’re on Flagler coming from Palm Beach Lakes but you forgot that it’s closed at Banyan. Go up Narcissus right along side of the "old" City Hall. Keep going past Clematis and Datura. You can even go through the parking lot (there’s meters there so it must be okay to do this) and you can get to Evernia.  Note:  I just drove on Narcissus.  It's closed after Datura.  Whatever.

If things get really bad and you can’t take it anymore and you have to get from Okeechobee to Palm Beach Lakes and there’s no way you’re going on Olive or Quadrille the escape plan is to cross over into Palm Beach and drive up Cocoanut until you get to the north bridge and then you’re on the other side of all the mess.

I have some other short cuts but I don't think they're legal.

Just remember, keep your head in the game. Don’t lose your cool. Play nice. Remember it’s not the destination, it’s how you get there and the lessons you learn along the way. Just to be on the safe side add fifteen minutes onto wherever you’re going. Rock on.

BLOOMERSNEW-whiteseashells_1_large.jpgA friend of mine just emailed me a website by the name of Grana and Mau.  I love everything on the site but I had to show the bikini here because it's so perfect for SoFla.  She also makes a dress with the same shells on it.

tropical-accordion.pink (2).jpgSince I'm now getting into such a beach mood I had to put Brown Paper 's tropical card up here again.  How about a "Summer Fun" party?  It's almost the end of April, can you smell the sunscreen?

safesea_home.jpgOh my gosh, I went on the Safe Sea website and they are predicting that they're going to run out of Safe Sea very quickly this summer because of distribution problems (I just skimmed this part, I don't really care why).  I have to buy some right away.  This stuff really works to help protect from sea lice.

banana elf.jpgI just bought this at ABC's Consignment Shop in Via Testa.  It's a wall pocket made in California in 1950.  There are some great vintage children's food plates and bowls there right now.

In The Garden of Good and Evil

a shovel.JPGThere are certain things I have decided that I can’t live without. One of them is Cokes. I tried for a while. I fall on and off the wagon but, if I go to Rocco’s I am not drinking water with my taco. It’s just criminal. Another thing that is required is getting some sun everyday. I don’t care if I turn into one of those ladies you might find marooned on Pompano Beach decked out in pedal pushers, suntan oil and cat-eyed glasses. I need my vitamin d. Usually every day, at some point, I take my weary bones outside and sit down in the sun for at least fifteen minutes. Today something happened that, well, explains this picture.

Did you notice what a beautiful day it was today? I had nothing to complain about (for once). I didn’t go to the beach but I only have myself to blame. So I was sitting outside reading the best book called Between, Georgia by Joshilyn Jackson. I don’t know why I decided to look up all of a sudden but right in front of me (maybe five feet away) was a snake. At the same time I looked up, he (aren’t all snakes boys, he he) had just lifted his head up to look around. I jumped up to go in the backdoor and at the same time he turned around and slid for cover under the bushes. While I was cowering behind the door, he immediately came out and continued on his way. So, I quietly snuck out and headed for the garage and got the shovel (yeah he was cute but he was a snake). While I was getting the shovel I had serious deep thoughts about murder. Could I really do it? Usually my husband handles these sorts of things. But I had CHILDREN to protect. I’m really not an animal lover but I can’t stand the thought of dead animals. Then I thought, yeah, I can do it, so I got the shovel and prowled around the bushes for a while. I don’t know where he is, but if he so much as shows his face around here he’s gonna get it.

I called my husband on his way home from work and our conversation went something like this:

Husb:  Did you wear your boots [have I mentioned that they're Tamara Henriques?] when you tried to kill it?
PBChick:  Uh. No.  I was wearing my sandals [Jack Rogers, thank you very much].
Husb:  Well if you try to kill it again, wear your boots, but you might want to put a rubber band around the top of them - they're really wide at the top.
[pause while I figure out what he's saying but not saying...]
PBChick:  Uh, I think I'll stick with the sandals.

I have a nest of vipers in my garden. What’s next for paradise? Gigantic sharks washing up on the shore? Turtle populations declining? I need a Coke.

I Live in Florida

Hello. tap tap Is this thing on? PBChick here. Did you miss me? Did you notice I was gone? I’m such a loser. You didn’t. I was on Spring Break. And, I LEFT FLORIDA! Yes, I know, it does happen sometime. I’m sure you do it too. I felt like after 10 hours of driving (yes, I drove) I was going to have my ID checked at the border to make sure I was allowed to leave. Some guard was going to say "Nope, you’re a Florida resident, only non-residents are leaving today, try tomorrow." Fortunately, no one stopped me and I got out. Phew.

I realized on my time state-side that every time I feel the need to excuse my behavior I simply say to myself or out loud (it doesn’t really matter which), "...I live in Florida" Like when people keep offering to let me use their swimming pool. "No thanks, I live in Florida, almost everyone has a pool so it’s no big whoop for us." Another one is when I’m with someone else in the car and I’ve just yelled and/or honked at someone who has taken too long to make up their mind where they want to turn and I say "I live in Florida, we have to drive like this, we’d be considered rude if we didn’t" Or, when I’m having my third doughnut at my favorite doughnut shop and I say "I live in Florida and the Krispy Kreme store closed." You might want to try this phrase out sometime. It covers a multitude of situations.

But, back to my vaca. I had a great time, thanks for asking. But, I’m glad to be back. My future plans include a serious trip to the beach where I’m going to sink my toes in the sand, read some more of the latest Peter Robinson book (I tried to read it the other day while I was eating a sandwich and realized it was either the book or the sandwich, food and murder mysteries don’t always mix), and simultaneously keep a desultory eye on the kiddies. I live in Florida and I love the beach.

DSCN3682.JPGHere's a pic from my trip.  If you guess where I took it and what building it's in, you can have your choice of  my next 40% off coupon to Joann Fabrics or a PBChick bumper sticker!  One at a time please!

Captain Ron

bigger boat.JPG
Being around the boat show for a couple of days got me to thinking. Uh oh. Have you ever thought that your family was going to have a big moment? Maybe it’s when you pull together and help build a house for a needy family somewhere or maybe it’s scaling some mountain, working as a team to do it. Well, I think my family is meant to have something along the lines of the movie Captain Ron. I just know it. Great things. And just maybe this weekend at the boat show is when it’s all going to happen. I’ll meet some rich boat owner along Flagler who needs his yacht from Florida moved down into the Caribbean somewhere and only my family will be the ones who will be fit for the job. My husband will be the one to wear the eye patch. This will be our Big Moment where we learn What We’re Made Of. We’ll face the open waters (seas 2-4 feet), search for provisions (where is that Houston’s in Ft. Lauderdale where you can tie up your boat?), and fight off pirates (Scrabble or Blokus?). Along the way we’ll learn some profound life lessons (like how to tan evenly) and we’ll grow closer as a family (a Spa at Atlantis would help me with this one).

It could happen.

Pot O' Gold

IMG_6103-2.JPG

Almost St.Patrick’s Day - when everyone’s Irish. So, before you start reading this, go out and buy the Once cd. Cue it up on your iPod and then continue. I’ll wait...Did you get it? Great...

IMG_6106.JPGI was driving along N. County yesterday and saw this rainbow. I could see the beginning and end of the rainbow. I thought about going out to check for my pot of gold but I’m not a very good swimmer.

I saw in the paper (the PB Post) yesterday that there are loads of St. Pat's activities going on.  There's an Irish Fest downtown today and tomorrow.  That looks like a lot of fun.  A comedian, cloggers, singers and a bunch of other activities.  There's also a parade in Delray that involves a pig.  I don't know if I'll catch that this year.  It was weird though, most of the notices in the paper were things at bars?  What's up with that?

Ooohhh, wouldn't it be fun if we tried to make the intracostal green for the big day?  Since Simple Green is supposedly so super safe, we could try using loads of that.  Just an idea, I'm open to other suggestions on how to celebrate.  I'm not dying my hair green.  Pink I could live with but green is going too far.

Shopping Alert #205: Big Hair and Burritos

IMG_5976.JPGOhmygoshhaveyoubeentoKourtneyPulitzer’snewshop? Okay, sorry, I’ll slow down. Going back a ways, there used to be a great shop next to Jane Loves Cheap Furniture. It was called Vignettes. It was actually in my little guide before it made it to the ‘web’ but it closed and so, bye, bye Vignettes. But, lets so move on! I read about Kourtney Pulitzer in a local mag and so I made my way down there this Saturday. Big treat, Kourtney was there and guess what, okay, I’ll tell you, I know the secret to why this shop is so fantastic! She’s from the South! Okay, maybe it takes more than that, but you have to go by this brand spanking new store (she just opened in December).

IMG_5974.JPGSo, while we were reminiscing about big hair and Chuy's, I saw some lovely clothes. Beautiful dresses. One shift was coral and white print with beading on the neckline - it came in blue but that one’s gone already. There was another beautiful floaty dress in yellow (oh my gosh - Jenna Bush should wear this to a bridal tea - get it - Yellow Rose of Texas???). I love the delicate necklace paired with it. I also loved the tunics and simple shorts - so SoFla. Plus some lovely linen pants that would look great on my tall, skinny friends - you know who you are.

One last mention, Kourtney also has some other interesting things in her shop. One item that really caught my eye was a painting by her mother-in-law. It was a view of the back of an airplane wing (looked like a private plane!) with islands scattered far below. I loved it.

Comic Commentaries (alt. title: Seinfeld, I am Not)

IMG_5951.jpgI was looking through a local mag recently (no, I don’t remember which one) and there was a photo shoot at Eaton Fine Art. I knew this because of the huge construction cones that you can’t miss if you’ve ever been to CityPlace. So, that stuck in my head, when so very much else doesn’t. Fast forward to me riding on my bike today (yeah, it rained on me again today, I’m starting to take it personally - I have my own personal rain cloud). Oh, and by the way, I wasn’t wearing a fab scarf or anything, I don’t trust my two year old. So, to get back onto the subject, I went to Eaton Fine Art because of that article I was telling you about. Yeah, LOVED it! What a fool I’ve been for never going before. I must add this to my list of regrets. It really seemed almost like a public space. So, heres a pic. I also added Eaton Fine Art to "Places to Go and Things to Do".

Oh my gosh, I totally forgot why I was telling you this. I’m losing it. I wanted to see the construction cones because of a Halloween outfit I made my son wear a couple of years ago. Do you remember when it seemed like everywhere you turned in Palm Beach and West Palm roads were under construction? I can’t remember what year it was. The middle bridge was under construction too. So I had a great idea for my son’s Halloween outfit. I bought an orange t-shirt and put wide diagonal stripes of tape across the front and wrapping around the back. He was a construction barrel. It was a commentary on the insanity we were being forced to endure. Needless to say, he didn’t win the costume contest in the Gucci Courtyard (I wanted to demand a recount).

I learned a very important lesson. Jokes are only funny if people get them. If you have to go around saying "Get it, he’s a construction barrel, ‘cause you know, there’s construction everywhere???" then you’re not going to get a laugh out of people. You’re only going to get one very embarrassed kid.

I’ve been reading The SartorialistIMG_5932.JPG way too much. Today on the way to the library I saw this girl riding her bike. I thought the yellow scarf made the whole look. So, I chased her down and asked her if I could take her picture. I wish I had this much style when I go bike riding. I can just picture it - I’ll get my outfit together and add a scarf. Things will be going well, I’ll be riding along when all of a sudden my two year old will turn the scarf into a noose. I’ll lose consciousness from lack of oxygen and fall over in a dead faint.

Anyway, I thought this girl looked so carefree. This is what Florida living is all about.

Manic Mondays

IMG_5891.JPGI place way too much pressure on myself on Mondays. I expect things out of Mondays. Cleaning, eating healthy, exercise, doing good motherly things like reading, riting, rithmetic with the kids. I can’t wait for maybe Thursday. By then my expectations of myself will be much lower. I’ll have decided that whatever it is that the Monday Me thought needed to get done isn’t going to get done this week and I’ll enjoy the next two days. But, enough about that, how was your weekend? Did you get out and enjoy the incredible weather?

Dear The Plaza

So I saw on the news yesterday (local, thank you very much - doing my part), that The Plaza is open again after two long years of being closed for renovations. Oh joy! So, here’s my little note to The Plaza, maybe it’ll get to them...

Dear The Plaza,

Hi. How are you? I am fine. You may not remember me but I’ve been to your hotel before. Years and years ago I visited the restaurant with my family. It was after a particularly sweaty tour of New York City and parts of Brooklyn (hello Omar Sharif!) on a double decker bus. We thought, what better thing to do in August after an open-air tour than to drag our wind-swept (and stinky) selves to The Plaza? I love, love, love your hotel. See, just like Eloise.

We walked by at Thanksgiving on our way to F.A.O. Schwartz but don’t be mad, I didn’t pay any attention to you. What was there to see? You weren’t open, I couldn’t go in or anything. I promise, if I were in New York right now, things would be different.

So, I just wanted to catch up and say "hello" and to welcome you back. If you’re ever in Palm Beach, let me know, I know of some great things to do around here. Ha. Ha.

Do They Make Tacos in India? (alt. title: Bollywood - Here I Come)

IMG_5856.JPGI have had it. It’s almost March. I blame all of this cold on global warming.

Enough is enough, I’m going to India. While riding bikes with the kids, I stopped in at the IndiaFest. It was going on at the Myer Amphitheater this past Saturday. It reminded me of the Indian things that I like: the movie Bend it Like Beckham (okay, not very Indian, but a little), the movie Bride and Prejudice (I "heart" this movie. I almost bought it, maybe I will, life is an uncertain thing that changes like the tides...one day I don’t own the movie, the next day I do), Indian clothes (I really want one of those outfits but I’m not showing my stomach), the jewelry they wear on their face (at the IndiaFest there were tables full of these designs that stick onto your face, my daughter was dying for some but, you only get to use them once), and since I’ve never had Indian food, all I can say is I love curried chicken salad.

I don’t know though, if I go to India, I’m worried that everyone won’t be dancing in the streets and throwing flowers at me like in Bride and Prejudice. I’ll have to think about this, should I have my dreams shattered by reality, or should I keep the dream and live with the freezing cold in South Florida? Maybe I’ll check out flights just in case...

One Big Happy Global Family
Time with the kids are times of reflection and profound mental thought. If I were in charge of greater things, I would resolve the problem our nation’s dependence on oil or genocide in Africa. But, I’m in charge of very little so my thoughts turn to little things. For example, the other day I took my kids to the playground at the Breakers. The girls looked so cute in their matching Hello Kitty t-shirts. While we were there, a Japanese couple showed up with their children. The parents and kids were wearing Crocs, the mom was carrying a Louis Vuitton bag, and one child was wearing a t-shirt with a bowling scene on it. I thought it was interesting that my American children were wearing a Japanese icon while they were wearing American ones.

I thought about grinning stupidly and saying “Hello Kitty” but I didn’t really know were to go with the conversation after that so I kept quiet.

What do Jaguars watch?
Jags 2.JPGI love it when my suspicions prove correct. I’ve always thought that inanimate objects had feelings. It all started with a little girl and a teddy bear. Well forget about that. Anyway, this picture proves I’m right. Jaguars like to watch t.v. After my initial elation and happiness wore off, some questions soon popped into my head. Because as you know, I ask those hard-hitting questions that everyone wants to know....

What news channel do Jaguars like to watch?
Are there any disagreements over what to watch?
Do they ever watch anything else?
What did Jaguars do before they had a fancy plasma t.v. to watch?
How did the Jaguar dealership know that the Jaguars wanted to watch t.v.?

When I questioned a source at the Jaguar dealership, the only firm answer I was able to receive was that CNN was on most of the time. The person I spoke to claimed that the television was for the owners of the Jaguars but PBChick knows better (I don’t know why, but 3rd person just sounds better - just roll with it). Those Jags want their shows.

The only question still in my mind, is why CNN? I know two Jaguar owners pretty well (don’t worry one of them isn’t PBChick, the only jaguar that might live at my house is a toy animal) and they both watch FoxNews. Logically, their cars would probably prefer the same shows as them. There must be a Jaguar advocates group out there somewhere to speak on the Jaguar’s behalf. Give them a voice.

See, this is what happens when it rains.

Hola, me llamo es Mano
Mano 2.JPG12 Febrero 2008

"Hola Palm Beach. Me llamo es "Mano". Soy de Colombia."

I like to think that’s what the sculpture at the Society of the Four Arts is saying to all who cross the middle bridge into Palm Beach. Then you can imagine more...

Mano 4.JPG"Bienvienudos. Estoy aburrido. No tengo nada hacer por todo del dia." Which I’m pretty sure means, "Welcome. I’m bored. I don’t have anything to do all day long." I love that sculpture. It’s by Colombian artist Fernando Botero and it’s called "Hand" I can not figure out how he came up with that name....hmmm maybe something will come to me.

I need to ask someone at the Four Arts about the placement of that piece. I don’t think it’s an accident that that big chubby mano (which looks suspiciously like my two year old’s hand) is within view of the bridge. I think it’s perfect and shows a little bit of whimsy on the part of the people at the Four Arts. Way-2-Go.

The exhibit is only until the 24 of February. I’ll be sad when my friend Mano is gone. Who will say "hola" to me after that?

Adios,

How to read the shiny sheet
Is this Superbowl Sunday? I thought another hurricane was coming, the grocery store was mobbed. Oddly enough, there was plenty of SlimFast on the shelves (don't worry, it's just a phase - SlimFast never works for me because I use it as a supplement to my meal not replacement).

Okay, so forget the Superbowl, Sundays are a great day to get the Shiny Sheet. And if you were just fumbling around with the paper, figuring out where to start, Never Fear, PB Chick is here...

How to Read the Shiny Sheet

Step 1
Open up the paper to the Society Section. Look through all of the pictures and see if there's anyone there you recognize. I counted two but it was a husband and wife so I think that probably only counts as one.

While you're in "Society" look through all the real estate listings to see if anyone you know has put their house up for sale. I don't know why I do this, it's just for fun. Before you move on, make sure you check out the weddings. I love reading people's c.v.s. The groom this week studied nuclear physics and did something cool in D.C. Fun. Fun.

Step 2
Moving on to the Fashion Section. This week there were more pictures of locals. (Count of zero for me). Then, check out all of the ads. Pioneer Linens had sherbert colored cashmere throws and I got hungry. Yes, I liked them so much I wanted to eat them.

Step 3
Now that you've covered the "real" news, it's time for the rest of the paper. There's a great section for the sports from the local schools and, my fave, Palm Beach 911. You get to read about what the police has been up to. It's like our own little mini-Miami Vice around here.

Oh, so much fun...what am I going to do for the rest of the week?

Rec Center Rehab
I was walking to soccer practice today and I had a horrible thought. I realized that next week is the last week of soccer practice. What am I going to do? Forget the kids? They'll figure something out, but what about me? It's my free therapy session. I know this is the case for other moms too. I see it all over the place. I pass groups of them in the bleachers along the field. Groups of two or three talking. We need this time. We may act like it's for the kids but this is the time that we decompress and regroup. We get it all out and after an hour we're ready to go for round 3 or whatever round we're on by 5:30 in the afternoon.

My son just read this and he looked at me and asked, "So Mom, soccer's about you?"

Clayeux and the Chick
Clayeux.JPGSo this is what happened. I went out to dinner tonight. It was fun, lots of laughs. That's not the point. The restaurant was on PGA but on the way there I realized that I forgot to bring the directions with me (I walk around with this head on but I don't know what good it does me). So, I was aimlessly driving around PGA looking for the restaurant when I decided to turn into this fab new shopping center on the north side of the street called Midtown. J.Alexander's is there. YUM. I'm totally going there soon. As I was driving around, I spotted and an itsy bitsy sign(I didn't realize at the time but I went in the back - whatever) for Clayeux. Woa. I flipped out. I didn't have time to go in so being the shallow person that I am, after I left dinner I raced across the street and went in the store for 15 blissful minutes. My heart my have stopped I'm not sure. (weeping) I love it. I used to get these clothes for my older daughter but I haven't seen them in ages. This.Is.The.First.Store.In.The.U.S. (more weeping). The clothes are made in Burgundy FRANCE and they're relatively reasonably priced. The couple who run the store are from Burgundy too. Too Cool. I'm so moved, I don't care about the weather today.

Four Day Weekends
If you're like me and you didn't go away for the four day weekend, (don't worry, the kids will be off again before you know it - someone once told me - the more you pay, the less they go) you might have used this time for contemplation and self-discovery. I don't think I learned anything new other than the fact that I hate changing the toilet paper roll and filling up the water pitcher. I also learned that when it's really cold I can't think straight.

Everything started out so well. Saturday I was at the Rec Center for soccer (watch out - play offs are coming up!) and I was wearing shorts. I brought a sweater, but at least I was getting some sun exposure. Then everything fell apart on Sunday. Cold, windy and damp. I think it would be interesting to find out if fewer people are depressed in Florida than other parts of the country. I think it must be true. With all of the sunshine we usually get, how can you stay down for long? It's not allowed. We're forced to enjoy the day whether we want to or not.

The_Peanuts_Snoopy_Cold-T.jpgShopping bulletin: I just went into Lil Rapunzel's on Royal Poinciana Way for the first time. Every time I've been by before it's closed because we're usually walking past after dinner at Cucina. Anyway, I was so surprised about the store. I thought it just had baby things but there were clothes for baby, toddler, kid and tween. One of my new favorite brands to look for is called Junk Food. They make the best vintage t-shirts. Lil Rapunzel's has a great selection of them. One of my favorites is an Alice in Wonderland t-shirt. Also, what I loved about the old store at this location (also owned by the same person) was the cards and she still carries them. They are hands down (what does that mean?) the best greeting cards around.

Little Tidbits
I barely have time for a chat. I'm too busy packing my bags. Oh, didn't I tell you? I'm moving to the equator. I can't take the cold any more. I was in De Nile today. I wore shorts. Should I wrap the pipes tonight? I hear it's going down to 50. Big weekend coming up. It's the Race for the Cure downtown. I don't mean to sound shallow but let me tell you, the Race is a very "in" thing to do. I may go down there just to soak up the cool vibe. I have so many new restaurants that I have to visit. The most pressing one is called Anthony's on PGA. A friend told me about it but I can't help thinking that it's really called Ant'ny's. Now the name has really stuck in my head. I've been told that the pizza is incredible. So, that's the news from the playground.

I met the nicest couple on the middle bridge the other day. We got to chatting while the bridge went up (another one of my dances with death - see my section on things do when there's nothing else to do). There was a boat going through that looked like a regular fishing/motor boat but it had a mast in the middle of it. They said it was at the same marina as them and that that particular boat had a book written about it. I can't remember all of the details but it's a pretty distinctive boat. It's in Key West right now but I'm sure it'll be back so keep an eye out for it.

SSPX0055.jpgHey Chick-lets, we're online! What an exciting week! Welcome to my world. I hope you enjoy tooling around Palm Beach as much as I do. There are so many great things to do around town. I already have some new things to add - so stay tuned!

The kids went back to school this week so I know everybody is breathing a huge sigh of relief. We made it! I hope everybody had a great holiday. We didn't have a white Christmas though. Maybe next year.

I was at the post office in Palm Beach yesterday. By the way, there are two post offices to go to and usually people who go to one never go to the other one. When I mentioned to my husband's grandmother that I went yesterday I told her "not your post office, our's." She knew exactly what I was talking about. The north post office is at the end of Royal Poinciana and County. I love going to both p.o.'s but I think I might slightly prefer the interior of this one. The south p.o. is one block north of Worth Ave. on County. It's easier to park and run in-to. ANYWAY, I was at the post office yesterday and they have a great new Chinese new year stamp coming out. It got me thinking - "wouldn't County Rd. all along the Breakers look great strung with Chinese lanterns?"

The restaurants section of the website should be updated soon, but I have to give you a sneak peek....you have to go to Rocco's Tacos!!! It's my new favorite restaurant. I now have another Mexican place to eat at other than going to Senor Frog's in Coconut Grove. It's on Clematis next to Starbuck's. Rocco's Tacos. Oh what a name. I just got totally hungry.

Also, I just picked up the new Palm Beach Cottages and Gardens magazine. Check out the room on page 97. Love, love, love it. The article said that the owner decorated it herself. Way to go!
